In 2005, ‘Viva La Village’ received rave
reviews from Village kids and their families. This past
year, the Forest Hill Village BIA set out to surpass
the success of the previous festival with a decidedly
stylish twist.
Taking a cue from the upscale boutiques, restaurants
and spas that line the Village streets, the BIA created
‘A Village Affair – the streetfest with
flair’ in celebration of the unique uptown ambiance
that is Forest Hill Village. The event, which once again
saw part of Lonsdale Road blocked off at Spadina, featured
stage performances by recording artists Easily Amused
(featuring popular Canadian Idol Finalist Keith Macpherson),
Kirsten Jones, Blair Packman, Dave Borins, and the Thurstons.
Village locals were also treated to a relaxing yoga
demo courtesy of Village Yoga, and a rousing performance
by Capoeira Camera.
The day’s biggest draw, however, was the hour-long
fashion show featuring the season’s hottest fall
designs from Village clothiers. Models braved the cooler
temperatures to strut their runway stuff in high-end
fashions by VilaVentura, rk, La Nuit Lingerie, and Ecco
Shoes.
In addition, the festival raised money on behalf of
Cottage Dreams, a foundation that sends cancer survivors
to donated cottages across Ontario in celebration of
their recovery. Chic Forest Hill Village canvas bags
full of coupons and free goodies provided by Village
merchants were sold during the event, with 100% of the
proceeds going to Cottage
Dreams.
